Every year it is my plan to photograph my niece on this bench near the house where I was raised. Every summer I will go home to Wisconsin and snap 5-10 quick photos of her before she becomes impatient and darts off to the playground where I promise her we’ll play after our yearly bench photos. I wonder what will get her there when she’s grown tired on the playground.

This was the bench I first photographed her on when the idea came to me to document her at the same place each year.

I really enjoyed photographing Denise, she’s such a kid at heart. I love that this bakery was a childhood dream of hers and here she is doing it.

Last week Andrea and I spent a day in the studio photographing the first 3 cakes in a new series she’s putting together for her website which she’ll be launching at the beginning of June.

You just never know and that my friends, makes me happy.
It was one year ago this month that this blog took flight.
At the time I had no idea what would come of it but I was excited about the possibilities enough to ignore the “why bother” voice and start the new project. It’s 1 year later and I can only begin to share with you all the gratifying things that have come from it and I’m not referring to the obvious and maybe in this case less important… work, jobs, money.

I’m talking about learning to take chances, going down new roads and about how to recognize the positive things in your life and leave behind the madness of comfort and routine.

So this post is hardly about celebrating another blog that’s managed to stick around for a year but it’s more about being inspired enough to take chances and to make space for the things that are worth your time and to leave behind the things that are causing the madness.
